Pottery can be decorative and functional. Most of the pottery I paint is of pieces that I own and enjoy in our home or pieces from my parent’s home. I did a series for a show in New York where in addition to my paintings of pottery, I displayed pieces of hand thrown clay pottery by a friend, Robert Harlin, which I had painted and fired in a RAKU kiln he and I had built. So much care went into each piece, hoping it would make it through the firing. Sadly, not all of them did, but it was a good lesson in learning to “let go”.
We are clay and God is the potter. We experience true freedom in His loving and caring hands!
Isaiah 64:8
Yet you, LORD, are our Father. We are the clay, you are the potter; we are all the work of your hand.
